A linking element of the community gardens with the living units is abstracted in the low-E glazed windows. The tinted glazing colors reflect the change of seasons. Porches are integrated to the floor plan of the units establishing a connection not only to the comPact community but also to the neighborhood. Three sustainable strategies are recommended for the living units: solar energy by solar panels, cross-ventilation through two sliding doors located at each end of the unit and a brick lattice wall for heat absorption during winter months. comPact’s goals are to engage, provide shelter, feel identified and offer opportunities for the homeless.
